The plan was to create a short tactics game in 4 levels, where you rescue a member of your party of adventurers in each level, and face off against the dungeon boss at the end. The player characters have their unique abilities:

  • Mage: lightning bolt, also pushes the target one tile back, but attacks only in straight lines
  • Ranger: Ranged attack from any angle as long as there is no cover in the way
  • Rogue: We get stabby with this one. I considered giving him an extra action to get to cover after attack, but then... I didn't.
  • The Mage ability was supposed to add an extra strategic element, allowing you to push an enemy into a level hazard - there is only one of them now, the spikes behind the Bone Warrior. If the Mage attacks him, he gets pushed into the spikes and dies.

Overall I wanted much much more for this game, but I simply don't have the time.

Planned features:

  • Controller/Steam Deck support
  • Highlight tiles we can move to
  • Highlight enemies we can legally attack
  • More interesting enemy abilities
  • Dungeon Boss

I wanted the game to have a "corridor" feel, to make it feel more urgent, despite being turn based, to give it a more "arcade" play style. I'm not sure I succeeded in this, and frankly I'm not happy with the result. In a future update, the camera will probably be at a more traditional angle for this kind of game, and move along with the action so we can see things properly everywhere.
