A quick gameplay update


Hi there, just a short video to show off a couple of new things!

I've adjusted the camera distance to show more of the world - it allows for more strategy and makes it look a bit less crowded. Unfortunately it makes gameplay look a slower, because the relative distances covered are larger, I will need to adjust ship/bullet/enemy speeds accordingly to keep the game's pace at a reasonable level. 

I've also changed the way health and scores are kept - and it looks like I might just drop scores altogether and go with a more rpg'ish progress measurement (experience points). 

Probably the flashiest change here is the homing missile - picking up a rocket upgrade now mounts a homing missile weapon on the ship, and the rockets explode on impact which makes for a pretty neat voxel effect. Enemies now drop an "xp" item that is automatically absorbed by the player.

There are a lot of changes yet to come, here are a few things that are planned short term:

  • Enemies will drop loot when killed
  • Enemies will have health bars
  • Enemies will actually try to hit you when shooting
  • Adjusting moving speeds of just about everything
  • Adding at least one new weapon type (for now)
  • Adding new visuals for level up
